The house, which was in desperate need of work, was just about the only house in the suburb within his budget, he says.The retired 70-year-old spent six months and $45,000 renovating the house himself - replacing the back half of the house and installing a new kitchen, bathroom and outdoor living space. He was not a builder by trade, but a corporate manager with an engineering degree."
