We decided on our Bank holiday Monday to take a walk and headed south from the Barbican towards St Pauls. The sun was out and at 9am the temperature was already 20deg. Every time I pass St Pauls I look up at the two viewing levels and try and count as many visitors/climbers as I can. Only a fraction of the average 15 buses (70 people per bus) ascend the summit to the top of St Pauls. They are rewarded with probably one of the best views of London. Today though, there was a summer haze, an Ozzy glare, a Malaysian heat. In preparation we had rummaged for sunglasses, but i couldn't find mine anywhere. The ubiquitous sunglasses, that were inseparable in Australia were lost without a trace here in London... last sighted somewhere in Sydney airport almost 12 months ago. Anyways, we crossed the wobbly bridge (Millennium Bridge) and headed into Shakespeare's Globe (something wicked this way comes..) Following the Thames east, we strolled past the Vinapolis (wine tasting mecca), then past the Clink museum to the Borough Market, then under London Bridge. We popped into London Bridge station, then headed into Butlers wharf. Back over Tower Bridge into St Katherine's' dock where we sat at the lock and watched a group of 40ft boats from Holland sink to river level as they started their journey back to Amsterdam. We then had lunch at Cafe Rouge where we spotted Graham Norton with his dogs. We sat outside with Leffe Blanc biers (this, in my humble opinion is an outstanding beer) and had lunch in the 28deg sun, watching the people in the marina and the passing parade. London was in fine form today. trying to put work out of our minds, knowing its all over soon.
