We set off early for Victoria Coach station, taking a National Express bus bound for Margate, pulling off the M2 past Rochester and into Whitstable. On the way down a man fell ill and the driver had to call an ambulance to collect him.
This seaside village hugs the coast, renowned for shell fish and particularly oysters.
We settled into our small B&B, then headed off to Pearson’s Arms for fish & chips by the sea.
We walked round the modest harbour, past the fish mongers, and winding through small alleys filled with eclectic and interesting shops.
From the beach you can see wind farms out in the Thames Estuary, near old cannon placements left since the second world war.
On the second day we explored Hearne Bay, but it started to rain quite hard so we headed back to the B&B to check emails and read papers.
